The architecture of a web based application is one of the most important and often under estimated tasks. Our architects design to deliver scalability and security. This can be achieved by using n-tier architecture.
Tier 1- Presentation
The first Tier delivers the business logic and associated data to the end-user Internet technology. Delivery is enabled via standard formats such as XML or HTML over standard protocols. The web server will present dynamic and static content to the user's browser or mobiles using WAP and speech technology.
Tier 2- Business Logic
The second tier is the middleware, which serves multiple functions. First, it connects to the third tier using standard technology.
Secondly, it delivers a basic framework to create and run the business logic combining the various back-en services. J2EE based and industry standard middleware will offer service management functionality such as load balancing, remote management and security. J2EE offers "out of the box" advanced functionality for session management, naming, messaging, access control, connection pooling and caching. Tier 3- Data (content, legacy, functionality)

Using these industry standard services will create a good portfolio of business functions., It will also allow for inter-operability with back office applications or legacy systems using extensions such as messaging services (Corba services) or proprietary connectors.
